Congratulations to Henry Krumrine on receiving the prestigious Creative Arts, Research, and Scholarship (CARAS) Grant
Congratulations to Henry Krumrine, a senior Mechanical Engineering student, on receiving the prestigious Creative Arts, Research, and Scholarship (CARAS) Grant from Temple University. His project, titled “Listening to Materials: A Study of Acoustic Emission Signals” focuses on analyzing acoustic emission signal features such as amplitude, frequency, energy, and rise time during mechanical loading. The goal of the project is to apply machine learning techniques to classify material deformation types and enhance spatial crack detection and failure prediction. In the initial phase, Henry will investigate the acoustic signatures of metals under controlled tensile tests. Later, he will explore the application of his algorithms to study structural changes in lithium batteries.
Henry will perform his research at the Temple Mechatronics Lab under the supervision of Dr. Osman Sayginer. His CARAS proposal has been approved for funding in the amount of $3,989.22, supporting his research from May to December 2025. This recognition reflects Henry’s commitment to advancing innovative undergraduate research at the intersection of materials science and data-driven analysis. Congratulations to Henry on this outstanding achievement.
