Samira received her scholarship check from the STLE Philadelphia Section

William Tuszynski and Thomas O’Brien visited campus on September 27 to present Samira Akther with a $750 scholarship from the Philadelphia Section of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).

Samira’s project, “Listening to Failure: The Sound of a Failing Bearing,” explores acoustic methods to monitor lubrication degradation in rolling-element bearings. By comparing acoustic emission sensors with audible-range microphones in a controlled setup, she aims to assess whether low-cost audio tools can reliably indicate lubrication health and support scalable predictive maintenance.

Samira will conduct her research in the Temple Mechatronics Lab under the supervision of Dr. Osman Sayginer. Congratulations to Samira again!
