ASME Philadelphia Section Awards Funding to Temple University Mechatronics Design Team
A Temple University student team has received $600 in funding from the ASME Philadelphia Section to support the development of an autonomous waste collection and sorting robotic system and to help the team compete in the 2025 to 2026 ASME Student Design Competition.
The student team includes Jake Scarsellato, Shareef Mohammed, Emily Johnson, and Nicholas Waller, with faculty advising by Dr. Osman Sayginer. The students recently completed MEE4177: Design and Realization of a Mechanical System, where they initiated the project by designing, fabricating, and testing a waste collection and sorting system. They will continue this same effort in the spring semester as their Senior Design project, further developing the system by adding mobility to their existing setup. Their goal is to represent the ASME Temple University Student Section at the ASME Student Design Competition.
Funding was granted following a competitive review process in which proposals were evaluated by academics and engineering professionals from the ASME Philadelphia Section. The team also presented the project publicly as part of the selection process.
Congratulations to the team and everyone supporting this effort.
